Overview
Cross-listed section relationships are visually flagged in Course Demand Projections and are accounted for when calculating fill rate and predicted demand. This is important for accurate insights given the combined max enrollment of cross-listed section relationships impacts registration and demand.
How Combined Max Enrollment Informs Demand
Combined max enrollment on a section relationship dictates the number of students that can enroll between the sections of the relationship.
If the combined max enrollment field is not set, the value will be defined as the sum of the max enrollments of all sections in the relationship. In these cases, there is no impact to how demand is calculated as the max enrollment capacity of each section is respected.
However, if combined max enrollment on the section relationship is set, this cap takes precedence over the enrollment capacities defined on the individual sections within the relationship. The sum of actual enrollment between the sections within the relationship cannot be greater than the combined max enrollment, even if the sum of the enrollment capacities on the section is greater than the combined max enrollment of the relationship.
As an example, it is possible for two sections within a relationship to each have an enrollment capacity of 100.
If the combined max enrollment is set to 100, no more than 100 students can register between the two sections.
If there are 50 students in one section, and 50 in another, the sections will be underfilled however the course will be considered overfilled within CDP.
How Cross-Listed Sections are Accounted for in CDP
Overview
Cross-listed sections are accounted for in multiple ways in CDP.
They are identified within the “Courses View” by highlighting the count of sections belonging to a course that belong to a cross-listed relationship.
If a course contains cross-listed sections, and you hover over the actual enrollment, the section(s) in the relationship will be identified with a chain icon.
Chain Icon
When you drill into a course with cross-listed section(s), the associated sections will again be identified with a chain icon.
When you hover over the chain, it will surface the name of the relationship, and when you select the chain it will open up additional information about the relationship.
Color Coding
The chain icons are color-coded based on shared relationships.
It is possible for different sections within the same course to be associated with different relationships. In these instances the relationships can be distinguished from one another via the color of the chain and the relationship name displayed when the icon is hovered over.
Enrollment Capacity
The enrollment capacity of individual sections belonging to the relationship will remain unchanged; however, the enrollment capacity of the course will take into account the combined max enrollment of the relationship.
This is calculated in the following way: The enrollment capacity of the course will equal the sum of the enrollment capacities of sections of the course that are not in a cross-listed relationship, plus the sum of the combined max enrollment capacities of the cross-listed relationship(s) associated with section(s) of the course.
The portion of actual enrollment and enrollment capacity driven by cross-listed sections and non-cross-listed sections are identified at the top of the course page.
