Overview
Syllabus Management includes effective dating.
Each syllabus is effectively dated. Effective dating in Syllabus Management is primarily relevant in the syllabus submission process.
Syllabus Templates and Forms are not effectively dated.
When a faculty member is submitting a syllabus, they must select an effective start date (and optionally, an effective end date) for that syllabus.
This term selection determines which effective dated version of the course and section Syllabus should pull data from, thus ensuring that the syllabus displays accurate information for the chosen effective dates.
Here’s an overview on effective dating in Curriculum and Catalog.
How Effective Dating Works in Syllabus
Step 1:
When creating a Form and Template, add the Effective Start Term prebuilt field and mark it “Required.”
It is possible to create a Template and Form with Effective Start Term not required, but it is best practice to ensure that each Template and Form includes this field, as it enables effective dating to work correctly.
Step 2: When an instructor is submitting a syllabus, they will choose the Effective Start Term for the section.
Step 3: When the Effective Start term is selected, the Effective Start Date field will automatically populate if it exists on the Form.
Step 4:
This Effective Start term allows Syllabus to pull in the correct effectively dated information from Curriculum and from Scheduling when using prebuilt Course Fields and Section Fields in the Template and Form.
These fields automatically populate the syllabus with data based on the Effective Start term, selected course, and selected section.
