Overview

  • You use the Question Bank in the left-hand sidebar to add fields.

  • The question bank includes four types of available fields: custom, prebuilt, course, and section fields.

  • Learn more about adding fields.

Custom Fields

  • “Custom Fields” includes a range of question types that can be named and customized as needed.

  • These fields can be used to pull in information like an attendance policy or a blank field for an instructor to add more information about themselves or to use as needed for any additional information.

Prebuilt Fields / [Syllabus Group Name] Fields

Overview | In Templates | In Forms

Overview

  • Prebuilt Fields are commonly used Syllabus fields that have been built here to save time.

  • Pull in fields like “Description” or “Department(s)” to use the pre-built field name and question type.

In Templates

  • In a Template, you’ll see all prebuilt field options.

  • They will be labeled as “Prebuilt Fields” in the Question Bank.

In Forms

  • You’ll see the fields that exist in the Template.

  • They will be labeled as “[Syllabus Group Name] Fields” in the Question Bank.

  • In the below screenshot, the Syllabus Group Name was “2023-2024 Fields”.

Course Fields

Overview | Reference Values | Downstream Impact

Overview

  • These fields integrate with Curriculum Management to automatically populate a Syllabus with curriculum information.

  • This eliminates the chance of inaccurate or miscopied information and eliminates the need for faculty to spend time entering and double-checking basic information about their course.

  • Course Fields are prebuilt fields in Syllabus that automatically facilitate this integration without requiring the user to manually configure Reference Values.

  • Course Fields will include most fields that exist in the Course Template built in Curriculum Management.

Reference Values

  • When you add a course field onto a form or template, you’ll notice that the section titled “Source” already contains a Reference Value and that the Reference Value is locked (see screenshot below).

  • This Reference Value connects the prebuilt Course Field to the correct field on Curriculum Management in order to automatically pull the data from that field into the final Syllabus.

  • Custom Course Template questions can also be built into the Syllabus Form or Template using Reference Values.

Downstream Impact

  • If a Course Field is added to the template, it will appear on any form created from that template unless it is removed from the form by a user with permission to edit the form.

  • If this field appears on a form, it will be automatically populated for an instructor in the syllabus creation process when they select their course within the syllabus.

Section Fields

Overview | Reference Values | Downstream Impact

Overview

  • Coursedog Syllabus integrates with Coursedog Scheduling Management so that any data from a Section in Scheduling can be pulled directly into a Syllabus.

  • This eliminates the chance of inaccurate or miscopied information and eliminates the need for faculty to spend time entering and double-checking basic information about their section.

  • Section Fields are prebuilt fields in Syllabus that automatically facilitate this integration without requiring the user to manually configure Reference Values.

  • These Section Fields can be built into the syllabus, made required, and locked into the Template or Form. They will automatically populate with data as an instructor builds their syllabus, ensuring that all section data is up-to-date and accurate.

  • Section Fields include many but not all fields from the Section Template. Custom Section Template questions can be built into the Syllabus Form or Template using Reference Values.

Reference Values

  • Similar to Course Fields, when you add a Section Field onto a form or template, you’ll notice that the section titled “Source” already contains a Reference Value and that the Reference Value is locked.

  • This Reference Value connects the prebuilt Section Field to the correct field in Academic Scheduling in order to automatically pull the data from that field into the final syllabus.

Downstream Impact

  • If this field is added to the template, it will appear on any form created from that template unless it is removed from the form by a user with permission to edit the form.

  • If this field appears on a form, it will be automatically populated for an instructor in the syllabus creation process when they select their section within the syllabus.
