Overview
The Instructor Template is essentially the same as the Section Template, except it has different pre-built fields and no fixed auto-generated cards. This article explains what’s unique about the Instructor Template. To learn more about field options that apply to all templates, go here.
Key Details
All instructors have effective date fields (which can be added via the Instructor Template).
If effective dates are defined, then an instructor will be filtered out of the "Assign Instructor" modal if the dates do not encompass the dates of the section. If section dates are not defined, then an instructor will be filtered out of the “Assign Instructor” modal if the dates do not encompass the dates of the term.
In order to ensure the instructor role defaults to a given value, navigate to Settings > Section Template > Instructors > Advance Settings > Instructor Role. You can define Options and set one of those options as the Default Value.
Approved Courses
Overview
A notable pre-built field on the Instructor Template to highlight is the “Approved Courses” field. This is a course select field and enables end users to associate approved courses with instructor profiles in Scheduling. Because “Instructor Approved Courses” are associated with an instructor’s profile, this data is not term-specific.
If this field is left blank, and the ‘Approved Courses Conflict’ rule is turned on, the rule will be triggered for any section the instructor is assigned to.
Note for Integrated Schools
For integrated schools, a field exception must be made to ensure the “Approved Courses” field persists in Coursedog and does not get overwritten by the nightly integration.
