PATH: Catalog > Settings > Page Templates > Course/Program Template > Custom Fields > Custom Derived Field
Within Online Catalogs, users who have template editing permission can also edit the external appearance of course and program names by using “Derived Fields”.
Edited course and program names will appear in the public catalog and can be comprised of fields associated with the course/program record, plain text, and spaces.
Custom derived course and program titles will appear in the course and program search and on the course/program detail page.
Defining a Custom Derived Field
Step 1: Navigate to Catalog > Settings > Page Templates and then select a page template for either course, course preview, or program
Step 2: Click “Custom Fields” under “Question Bank” on the left-hand side of the screen.
Step 3: Drag “Derived Field” from the question bank and onto your template.
Step 4:
Once “Derived Field” is on your template, click into it to access its Question Settings.
This will allow you to customize the field.
Step 5:
Click the “Customize Derived Field” button under Question Settings.
The derived field can be made up of other fields on the record, plain text, and spaces.
Step 6:
Click “+” to view and select available fields.
You can add text between fields to help build the entry.
Step 7: Click out of the modal to save for this session but note settings won’t be saved until you have clicked the “Save” button (see Step 3 below).
Setting a Custom Derived Field
Step 1: Click “Template Settings”.
Step 2: Use the “Use of Custom Derived Field” dropdown to select the previously-defined custom derived field you would like to set as active.
Step 3:
Click “Save Settings” in the top right corner of the page.
The Catalog will now display the custom derived name field, if the edited template is the active catalog template.
