Editing Existing Events in the Coursedog UI

If your permissions set by your institution allow, you may be able to Edit an Existing Event or Request Event Changes.

In order to either Edit an Event or Request Event Changes, navigate to Events in the left hand navigation and select a given Event. Your allowed actions are specified under ‘Actions’ in the right hand side and depend on the Role permissions your institution set.

Edit Event

Click on ‘Edit Event’ on the top right and you will see at the top of the screen a banner will show that you are in edit mode. You will now be able to change any field in the event’s form. When you are finished (remember to fill out all required fields) you can click “Save Changes” to publish your edited event. This will update your public facing events site in real time.

Edit Event Type

Note that, in permissions for Events (Settings > Roles), there is a permission under the permission group "Events" called "Edit Event Type". This permission allows a user to edit the Event Type of an existing event. This is different from the permission under the permission group "Settings" called "Edit Event Types", which allows a user to edit all the Event Type settings.

If a user has this permission on, they will see an "Edit Event Type" button in the Event Actions sidebar.

Clicking that button will open up the following modal:

The modal allows users to change the event type of the event. The event type also defines the custom fields associated with an event via the event form. If you change the event type, you will no longer see any custom event fields associated with that event type.

Editing Meetings and Locations Recurrence Patterns

If editing the Meeting & Locations card, keep in mind that the card will automatically collapse recurrence patterns and will show just the first meeting by default. If the user uncollapses the recurrence pattern (by clicking on ‘Show All Meetings in Recurrence Pattern’), they can view all meetings individually.

When editing events, if a user is editing the recurrence pattern in the collapsed view, they are able to edit all meetings in the recurrence pattern together. Users are notified of this via a yellow banner at the top of the card.

If a user is editing individual meetings, the user can now switch between editing a "single" meeting, and editing "this and following meetings". Users are notified of this via a yellow banner at the top of the card.
