Preferred Building Conflict
Problem Overview
You see a conflict in the conflicts tab that says something like, “Building X is not this section’s preferred building” even though the section is assigned to a room in the preferred building.
Explanation
This can happen for a couple different reasons:
You defined a preferred building for the section but then assigned multiple rooms to the section, at least one of which isn’t in the preferred building.
You have both the “Preferred Building” (single select) and “Preferred Buildings” (multiselect) fields on your Section Template, and both are being used when defining section preferences.
Solution Options
If you’re assigning multiple rooms to a section but only have one preferred building listed, either ensure both rooms are in the same preferred building – or adjust preferences to list both buildings.
Ensure you are only using the “Preferred Building” or “Preferred Buildings” field. If you are using both but wish to define multiple preferred buildings, remove the building listed under “Preferred Building” and add it to the “Preferred Buildings” list.
Best Practice
Have only the “Preferred Building” OR “Preferred Buildings” fields on your Section Template – not both.
Unknown Conflicts Appearing in Conflicts Report
Problem Overview
You’re viewing the conflicts report for a term that was scheduled outside of Coursedog and are coming across conflicts like "This section prefers to teach in Class rooms" and "This section prefers to teach in rooms with a capacity of X".
Explanation
These conflicts are due to someone populating the preferred room type and preferred room capacity fields.
Solution Options
These conflicts can be resolved by either removing the value from the field, or updating the room to match the preferences.
If using Banner, the preference could be coming from Banner as they have some preference fields in the SIS. Try adding those fields to the templates and seeing if values appear for the sections in question.
